You might gain momentary attention, but without a clear strategy for what comes next, that attention quickly dissipates, and your efforts yield little in terms of real business results.

We've all been there, giving into the urge to just create. We don't know what's gonna work so we should just make a lot of stuff right? Posts, videos, text posts, tweets, stories, publish them everywhere, and hope something sticks. This is often referred to as "Spray and Pray".

It's the idea that if you generate a high volume of content across various platforms, you'll inevitably capture attention. And once you have everyone's eyes on you, well, you'll figure out what to do with that attention then.

Imagine walking into a room full of people, taking a deep breath, and shouting: "Hey everybody! Look over here, I've got something to say!" Everyone stops, turns, and looks at you. In that very moment, you either need to have something genuinely valuable and relevant to say, or you're left with an awkward silence, forcing you to meekly respond, "Gotcha, I'll be back next week with what I really wanted to tell you."

That's the core issue with "Spray and Pray." You might gain momentary attention, but without a clear strategy for what comes next, that attention quickly dissipates, and your efforts yield little in terms of real business results.

Now, don't get me wrong – there's absolutely nothing wrong with experimenting with your content. In fact, it's encouraged! Have fun, try different formats, topics, and styles to see what resonates with your network. Learning what your audience enjoys and responds to is crucial.

But here's the critical difference: Don't just spray and pray. Instead, track what's actually driving real interest from business owners.

  • Who are you genuinely educating with your insights?

  • Who are you consistently entertaining and keeping engaged?

  • Who are you truly inspiring to take action or think differently?

When you identify content that genuinely succeeds in sparking interest within your target market, that's your cue! Congratulations – now, make more posts like that. Focus your efforts, refine your approach, and turn fleeting attention into lasting impact.
